Be immersed in nature while making art. This class will learn how to create art en plein air, a French expression meaning “in the open air”, to capture the spirit and essence of a landscape by incorporating natural light, color and movement. This class will meet outdoors, focusing on seasonal garden interests around Lasdon Park. Location details will be sent prior to class. In the event of rain, class will be canceled and make-up date set.

Learn the art of creative expression in clay using hand building techniques. This multi-session class will give students the opportunity to develop their art in stages with each class building upon the last. An introduction to tools and construction methods will be covered.

“Pop-up” Holiday Watercolor Greeting Cards

Learn the art of making watercolor greeting cards with watercolorist Hope Friedland. In this workshop participants will make fun whimsical “pop-up” cards, just in time for the holidays. This is a family oriented class and parents or caregivers will work together with their child to create cards.

Welcome toddlers and caregivers! Come gather, frolic, plant and play at Lasdon! We will meet and greet each other with a song in the beautiful gardens, rain or shine. Let’s be wildly curious, wonder and wander together in the woodlands, gather for a casual cup of tea, and enjoy nature’s full-sensory seasonal stories. Contribute to our developmentally appropriate, creative, and collaborative nature study journal.

What’s the buzz in the garden? Learn about late season pollinators. Participants will help document plants, insects and animals using iNaturalist to create a snapshot of Lasdon’s ecosystem. Registration is required.

Join Lasdon Educators on a hike through the trails to observe the seasonal changes of fall. We will explore the woods by the Trail of Honor and conclude in the Meadow where families are invited to enjoy a picnic lunch together.
This is not a stroller friendly walk. Baby carriers are recommended for young children. Wear sturdy shoes and tick repellant. Sunscreen and hat may be needed. Families will need to carry water, lunch and a picnic blanket during the hike.
Registration is required. This program will meet in the lower parking lot next to the trail of honor

Learn how to identify trees by using characteristics found in Autumn. This class will be the first in a 3 part series discussing what observations can be made during different seasons used to guide the process in understanding the differences between tree species. Students will learn what tools are available to help them and how to confirm an ID.

Afternoon session – 1 p.m. – 2 p.m.
$5 per person (Ages 5 and up)

Fall is the perfect time to sow seeds that need a winter’s rest. By mimicking nature, we can plant native seeds that need to experience cold to start germination. Together we will start seeds for the wildflower meadow at Lasdon as we learn about their benefits to the ecosystem. In addition each participant will make a milk jug terrarium to start their own wildflower garden at home.
