VOLUNTEER WITH US Lasdon Public Gardens
Lasdon Public Gardens invites volunteers to support the care and beauty of the park through hands-on gardening, public events, conservation work, and trail stewardship. Opportunities are available seasonally and vary by day.
Garden Squad
Assist staff with maintaining the beauty and health of Lasdon Public Gardens.
TYPICAL TASKS INCLUDE:
Planting and pruning
Weeding and mulching
Watering and deadheading
Raking and general garden maintenance
Removing invasive species
Light trail maintenance and litter pickup
SCHEDULE:
Tuesdays and Sundays , 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Seasonal (beginning first Tuesday in April, runs through the fall)
Green Squad
Every Saturday from April to November, Lasdon Public Garden’s Green Squad Volunteers help keep the park looking beautiful.
TYPICAL TASKS INCLUDE:
Invasive species removal
Planting native plants
Watering
Weeding
Trail maintenance
Mulching
Trash clean up, and more
SCHEDULE:
Saturdays , 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.
Seasonal (beginning first Saturday in April, runs through the fall)
Public Events Support
Help bring the events at Lasdon Public Gardens to life by supporting staff during community programming and seasonal events.
TYPICAL TASKS INCLUDE:
Staffing information tables
Assisting with guest flow and crowd movement
Setting up and breaking down event spaces
Distributing materials and programs
Supporting creative builds and installations
General event assistance as needed
Conservatory Exhibits
Support the creative development of themed displays in the Conservatory and throughout the gardens.
Volunteers work under the direction of the creative team and may assist with:
Exhibit installation and setup
Decorative planting and arrangement
Seasonal display preparation
Light construction or staging support
SCHEDULE:
Varies based on exhibit calendar
Trail Stewards
Protect and maintain our 3.5 miles of hiking trails with the NYNJ Trail Conference Trail Maintainers from May through October.
COMMITMENT:
Training on July 11, 2026, 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.
– 2 supervised shifts will be scheduled after the training to complete Trail Steward Certification
– Once certified, Trail Stewards are requested complete at least one 2-hour shift per month based on their schedule availability.
– Seasonal role (May–October)
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Trail monitoring and basic maintenance
Reporting conditions via online form
Supporting long-term trail preservation
This role is ideal for volunteers interested in ongoing stewardship and conservation impact.
*Minimum age for this role is 18
Junior Volunteer Program
For young adults (ages 15+) Age Minimum (with Adult): 14+, Minimum Age:15+
JUNIOR VOLUNTEERS CAN:
– Earn community service hours
– Learn about horticulture and conservation
– Assist across garden and event programs depending on need
– Complete Eagle Scout, Gold or Silver Awards for Scouts
Corporate Volunteer Program
Leave the office behind for a day of volunteering at the picturesque Lasdon Public Gardens. Work alongside our staff to help maintain the beauty and health of the gardens while enjoying fresh air, meaningful outdoor work, and a unique team-building experience.
