For ages 6 – 10

September is Bio-blitz Time

MONTH: September
DAYS: Fridays – 9/4, 9/18, 9/25
TIME: 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Let’s go for a walk, then stop, and look closely. Kids are the best at spotting and cerebrating biodiversity. Together we will document plants, insects, birds arachnids, and all the creatures we see using iNaturalist to create a snapshot of Lasdon’s ecosystem. We will learn about recognizing patterns, to help you tell one plant or insect family from another. Perhaps we’ll make an important discovery for science or encounter a mystery to research. Wear sturdy walking shoes. Children must be accompanied by adult.

Draw, Paint, Sculpt

MONTH: October
DAYS: Wednesdays – 10/7, 10/14, 10/21
TIME: 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Calling all art lovers. This class combines three art disciplines – drawing, painting and sculpture allowing students to follow there own interests, focusing on one or combining all three.

Baking

MONTH: January
DAYS: Mondays – 1/4, 1/11, 1/18
TIME: 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Learn the art and science behind baking. Each week we’ll prepare a different recipe and taste them over lunch. Children must bring lunch. This class is not recommended for children with food allergies or sensitivities.

Drawing and Painting

MONTH: February
DAY: Wednesdays – 2/10, 2/17, 2/24
TIME: 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Students will learn to express themselves through exploration and experimentation in various materials and techniques. Basic principles of art including line, shape, color and composition will be introduced to guide creation.

Clay Sculpture

MONTH: March
DAY: Wednesdays – 3/10, 3/17, 3/24
TIME: 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Learn the art of creative expression in clay using hand building techniques. This multi-session class will give students the opportunity to develop their art in stages with each class building upon the last. An introduction to tools and construction methods will be covered.

For ages 10 – 15

Painting

MONTH: September
DAYS: Wednesdays – 9/16, 9/23, 9/30
TIME: 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

This class introduces students to core concepts and techniques in painting while encouraging them to explore individual styles and ideas. During the 3 weeks, students will learn the basics of painting with acrylics, color mixing and brush work.

Nature Journaling

MONTH: October
DAYS: Thursdays – 10/1, 10/8, 10/15
TIME: 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Let’s capture nature on a page. We’ll visit sit spots at Lasdon where we can practice observation methods, and try writing prompts or illustration techniques. We will also learn about science experiments that are being conducted in the gardens and on the trails. Journaling will help you express how you enjoy spending time in nature, from season to season, in your own style.

Love writing stories and drawing- Learn how to make characters and bring stories to life using expressive techniques found in graphic novels and comic books. Students will explore sequential story telling and develop visual narratives with the characters they create.

Edibal Art

DAYS: Monday – 2/1, 2/8, 2/15
TIME: 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Papier Collé / Fine Art of Paper Collage

MONTH: March
DAYS: Monday – 3/1, 3/8, 3/15
TIME: 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Papier collé (French for “pasted paper”) is a specific form of collage invented by Georges Braque in 1912. Using various types of papers, students will learn how to create a composition similar to painting. This multistep process will be covered over a 3 week session. Students must have strong hand-eye coordination for copying and cutting precision shapes needed for this type of collage.

Sculpture

MONTH: April
DAYS: Wednesdays – 4/14, 4/21, 4/28
TIME: 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Create 3 dimentional art, using a variety of materials. Be expressive while exploring form and scale. Students will learn different methods of construction and fabricating techniques to develop ideas and concepts to make sculpture.
